SERVICES & PROGRAMS
Survivors of intimate partner or family violence often need help solving many different kinds of problems. Safe Place has services that can help you overcome the effects of abuse and build a new life for yourself and your children. Call the Safe Place hotline for more information and to make an appointment with an advocate or counselor
24-HOUR HOTLINE
Answered 365 days a year, the hotline is your first source for help and information. Trained advocates answer questions about domestic violence, approve victims for shelter, make appointments with advocates and counselors, and refer callers to community services.
SHELTER
Safe Place provides secure and confidential emergency shelter for victims and their children. Emergency transportation is available within the 15-county service area. Meals, clothing, hygiene items, and baby supplies are provided to residents. Residents can access individual counseling services, personal and legal advocacy services, and support groups.
LEGAL & PERSONAL ADVOCACY
Trained advocates offer support throughout legal and court procedures. Advocates help victims apply for protective orders and develop personal safety plans. Clients receive referrals to community services that can help with housing, employment, and education.
COUNSELING
Individual counseling and support groups help victims understand their feelings and the dynamics of abusive relationships. Through counseling and support groups, clients gain the tools that help them overcome the effects of abuse and determine their best choices for an abuse-free future.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM
The children’s program provides children with a positive, loving environment that encourages them to explore their feelings and develop healthy family relationships. Children can participate in individual and group activities that are tailored to their needs.
Project ADAM (batterer’s intervention program) – This intervention program for persons who batter uses a curriculum which meets the guidelines of the Texas Council on Family Violence. Batterers learn to eliminate the use of abusive power and control against their partners and base the relationship on equality and respect. Project ADAM participants pay a fee based on income.
Community Education – Safe Place staff provide domestic violence response training for professionals in law enforcement, health care, government and private social service agencies, the clergy, and other interested groups. Staff members are also available to make educational presentations to church and civic groups, youth organizations, businesses, and workplace organizations. Bilingual Services – Hotline, advocacy, support groups, children’s program, and Project ADAM services are available in English and Spanish.
All programs and services for victims are free of charge. Safe Place serves victims living in a 15-county area of West Texas that includes Andrews, Borden, Crane, Dawson, Ector, Gaines, Glasscock, Howard, Loving, Martin, Midland, Reeves, Upton, Ward, and Winkler Counties
